Doris Jean Smith, 92, entered Heaven on Tuesday, May 26, 2026. She was born on June 4, 1933, in Kenmare, ND. She was the second of four daughters, born to the late Leonard and Josephine Zimmer, a North Dakota farmer.
At the age of 10, Doris believed on the Lord Jesus Christ and was saved in an evangelistic meeting at the First Baptist Church of Kenmare, ND. She graduated from Kenmare Hgh School in 1952 and later from Oak Hills Bible Institute of Bemidji, MN in 1955. She was married to Donald Smith on August 3, 1956, and they have been blessed with sixty-nine wonderful years of marriage.
Her parents, Leonard and Josie Zimmer; her sister: Jeeanette Larson; her brothers-in-law: Allen Larson, Calvin Nelson, and Merrill Rodin; her daughter: DeNae Basinger and her great-granddaughters: Savanna Nichols and EllieMae Basinger were all in Heaven waiting for her when she arrived.
She is survived by her sisters: LonaMae Nelson and LaDonna Rodin; her husband, Donald Smith of sixty-nine years; her daughter: Debbie Smith; her sons: Dan Smith, Dave Smith, and Dwight Smith, as well as, her twenty-three grandchildren, fifty-one great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter.
A memorial service will be held for Doris, on June 13, 2026, at 3PM EST at the Maranatha Baptist Church of Shelby, NC. Flowers can be sent to the address below for the memorial service on June 13 or memorial gifts can be given to the Maranatha Baptist Church in her memory. (900 Mark Drive, Shelby, NC 28152)
Doris' one desire was that all who knew her would receive her Savior, by faith, and thus be born again into the family of God!
"Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: and whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this" (John 11:25-26)?
