Doris Lee White Bridges
Doris Lee White Bridges, 86, passed away Sunday, September 17, 2023 at Peak Resources in Cherryville, NC. Born in Cleveland County on July 8, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Cly Jackson White and Mattie Lee Mode White Causby. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her loving husband of 46 years Robert "Bobby" Bridges, sisters Ruth Bracket, Inez Smith, Ann Parker Ruyal, brothers Roy Dean White and David White, as well as, special aunts Nadine Martin Sanders, Allen Towery, step-brothers, Bobby Causby and Dean Causby. She attended Piedmont High School in Lawndale, NC through her junior year in high school where she proudly played guard on the basketball team. She graduated from Polkville High school in 1955. She was a faithful member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church and formerly a long-time member of Calvary Baptist Church. She was a hard-working woman, often working more than one job at a time. She worked at Bingham's Hardware in Polkville. She retired from Kemet Electronics, then began a second career in her retirement at Belk in Shelby before retiring a second time at age 75. During her second retirement, she worked as a Foster Grandparent at Graham Elementary School. Above all she loved her family, her God, her friends, her church, and her Sunday School class. Left to cherish fond memories of Doris are her children, Robin Hamilton (David) and John Bridges (Shonda Stanton), grandchildren, Ashley Wells, Jacob Bridges (Cherish), Sydney Bridges, Ashley Hamilton and Brittany Donovan (Brian). Great grandchildren Austin Wells, Wynn Wells, and Baby Bridges who is expected any day now. Also let to cherish her memory are her sisters Faye Martin, Ruby Jean Rector, brother Donald "Pete" Causby (Hilda), step-brother, Richard Causby (Shirley), uncles, Earl White and Donald "Shack" Mode, as well as, sister-in-law Mary Bridges and Judy Causby, brother-in-law J.R. Smith, granddaughter, Robin Heather Scoggins (Andy), great-granddaughter, Katelyn Wray (Cameron) and many caring cousins, nieces, nephews and friends that she dearly loved. To honor the life of Mrs. Bridges, the family will receive friends Friday, September 22, 2023 from 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, September 23, 2023 at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church with Pastor Tim Trexler officiating. The family will hold an Ice Cream Social at the church following the funeral service. Burial will follow the social at Clover Hill United Methodist Church in Casar beginning at 5:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, Harvest Seeds Ministry, or by simply taking your best friend out to eat, because taking the time to share a special meal with a good friend was very important to Doris.
