Dorothy Davis Hoyle of Shelby, NC, passed away peacefully on July 15th, 2026, at Peak Resources in Cherryville, at the remarkable age of 98.

Born on December 21st, 1927, Dorothy, affectionately known as "Dottie," or "Aunt Dot," grew up on the banks of the First Broad River in Lawndale. She was the daughter of the late Forrest A. Davis and Nettie Morrison Davis.

Dorothy began her education at Piedmont School and graduated from Shelby High School.

She enjoyed a long career in retail. For many years, she was a welcoming face in the shoe department at Hudson's and later joined Dillard's where she frequently excelled as the top salesperson, until her retirement.

Always the gracious southern lady, Dorothy was deeply devoted to those she loved. She took great pride in extending small acts of kindness to everyone who was blessed to know her. And up until her final days, she was still driving, doing her own grocery shopping, and enjoying an independent life, all with a sharp intellect.

Though she never had children of her own, she poured an abundance of maternal love into her nieces and nephews, as if they were her own. She never missed an opportunity to send beautifully timed birthday and special occasion cards to a wide circle of family and friends.

Dorothy was a member of Lawndale Methodist Church. Many of her Sundays were spent visiting her beloved sister, Sarah, with whom she shared a deep and unbreakable bond. She also held a soft spot for animals, especially dogs, who also found a great friend in her, and she loved cheering on the Tar Heels.

In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 61 years, Paris Hoyle; her siblings, Germaine Davis, Fannie Lue Pritchard, Forrest A. Davis, Jr., Benjamin F. Davis, and Mary Sue Davis Haag.

She is survived by her loving sister, Sarah Davis Boggs of Fallston, her devoted nieces and nephews, extended family, and a community of people who admired her vibrant, independent spirit.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Wednesday, July 22nd at 3:00 p.m. at Stamey-Tysinger Funeral Home in Fallston, North Carolina with the Reverend Keith Sherrill officiating. The family visitation will precede the funeral from 1:00 p.m. to 2:45 p.m.

Entombment will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park Mausoleum in Fallston.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that charity considerations be made in Dorothy's name to Lawndale Methodist Church, St. Jude Children's Hospital or Shriner's Hospitals for Children.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Stamey-Tysinger Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Fallston.
