Dorothy Grigg "Dot" and "Mama Dot," passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 21, 2026, at Pineville Atrium Hospital, surrounded by her loving family, She was 90 years old.

Born on October 13, 1935, in Cleveland County, North Carolina, Dot was the daughter of the late Walter and Mada Jones. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Linda Jones Greene and Kaye Hocker, brother in law John Hocker, and son-in-law, Keith "Corky" Wilkinson.

Dorothy is survived by her devoted husband of 71 years, Dayne Grigg, whose love story was as sweet as sugar and a true example of lasting devotion. She is also survived by her daughters, Kathy Wilkinson and Kim Haig, wife, Sheryl; her cherished grandchildren, Clayton Wilkinson and wife Deborah, Senior Master Sergeant Zachary Wilkinson, Abby Sando and husband Daryl, lan Haig, Nate Haig, and Ollie Haig; and her beloved great-grandchildren, Easton and Harper Wilkinson.

Surviving siblings Billie Jones Baugham, husband Bob, Lisa Jones Champion, husband Donald, Jimmy Jones, wife Beverly. Mom loved you all so very much.

A faithful and devoted member of First Baptist Church of Shelby, Dot lived her life grounded in faith, grace, and service to others. She retired from J.L. Suttle Insurance after many dedicated years of work.

Dot was a woman of many talents and remarkable gifts. She had an eye for design, impeccable attention to detail, and organizational skills that could rival anyone's. She was a fabulous cook. Dot kept an immaculate home and carried herself with elegance, intelligence, and wit. Sharp as a tack and wonderfully funny, she had a way of making people feel both welcomed and loved.

She enjoyed many hobbies throughout her life, but nothing compared to her love for baseball and college basketball. She was a loyal Atlanta Braves fan and a devoted supporter of Duke basketball. Whether cheering on her teams, cooking for those she loved, or simply gathering family together, Dot brought joy into every room she entered

To know Mama Dot was to know warmth. Her kitchen was often filled with something wonderful, and many were blessed to sit at her table and enjoy meals prepared not only with skill, but with love, She was the soul of her home and the beloved matriarch of her family.

A faithful servant of God, Dot lived with quiet strength, unwavering faith, and deep compassion.

Even through life's hardships, she continued to lift others up with kindness, wisdom, and encouragement. She loved deeply, gave generously, and carried grace through every season of life, Though our hearts are heavy, we celebrate her extraordinary life and the legacy she leaves behind. She was not only our mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, but also our best friend. Known lovingly to all as "Mama Dot," she will forever remain in our hearts.

We want to thank everyone who had a part in Mom's life. Each of you helped make her who she was, and your friendship, love, and influence meant more to her than words can express. We are grateful for the memories you shared with her and for the lasting impact you had on her life.

A memorial service, and a celebration of Mom's life will be held at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home & Crematory on Sunday, May 24, 2026, at 2:00 p.m.
