Dorothy Pope Lingerfelt, age 86, of Cherryville, passed away April 30, 2026, at Peak Resources in Cherryville. She was born October 1, 1939, in Gaston County, to the late James Alvin and Iva Dellinger Pope.

Dorothy was a member of First Wesleyan Church in Cherryville. She retired from Anvil Knitwear in Kings Mountain. Dorothy enjoyed cooking and had a special way of making everything taste delicious. She liked flowers, in particular, tulips and zinnias. Dorothy loved her family, especially her grandchildren, whom she adored.

In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her brothers, Grady Newell Pope, and James Dean Pope.

Survivors include her children, Denise Lingerfelt Johnson (Jamie), Barry Dean Lingerfelt (Susan), and Lita Lingerfelt Varner (Mick); grandchildren, Brooke Hawkins (Christian), Ashton Ferrell (Seth), Jimmy Johnson (Miranda), Ansley Green (Donnell), Preston Lingerfelt (Madison), Lindsey Lingerfelt (Ben), and Will Varner; great-grandchildren, Grayson Ferrell, Harper Lovelace, Raleigh Ferrell, Morgan Green, and Lilly Johnson; sister-in-law, June Pope; and nephews, Bryan Pope, and Dirk Pope.

A Funeral Service will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, May 3, 2026, at Carpenter-Porter Funeral Home, with Rev. Dr. Vince Hefner officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM until 2:45 PM, prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at City Memorial Cemetery.
