Eddie Clay
Eddie Clay, 69, passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday, February 9, 2025 in the loving care of his wife.
He was born August 28, 1955 in Louisville, Kentucky to James and Estalene (Binder) Clay. He is survived by his wife, Anita, daughter, Andra Williams (Doug), grandchildren Jaleigha Clark, and Jamaal Clark, and son, Gregory Clay, his parents, his brother Jeff Clay (Paula), and children/grandchild, and his sister Melissa McMichael and children. He married Anita Jean Gregory on October 23,1976 in Louisville, KY.
Eddie professed Christ as his personal Lord and Savior at age 12 at Valley Station Baptist Church, Louisville, KY. At age 20, he surrendered to full time ministry at Valley Station Baptist Church and was ordained in 2002 at First Baptist Church, Winter Haven, FL. He served faithfully for 49 years in churches in Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia, Florida and North Carolina. His ministry positions included Student Pastor, Single Adult Pastor, Minister of Education, Church Consultant, Executive Pastor, Discipleship Pastor, and Administration Pastor.
Eddie's favorite scripture verse was Proverbs 3:5-6: Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not to your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths.
Throughout the years he enjoyed coaching youth basketball, playing golf and pickleball as well as participating in his children's and grandchildren's sports endeavors.
Eddie will be remembered for his great smile and gentle spirit. He had a special way of relating to all age groups, from children to senior adults.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2pm, Saturday, February 15 at Elizabeth Baptist Church, 301 N Post Rd, Shelby, NC 28152
