It is with great sadness to announce the death of our beloved mother, Edith Faye Carey.

Edith peacefully passed away Saturday, September 2, 2023, at White Oak Manor of Shelby at the age of 82. Born in Middlesboro, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Sherman Collins & Naomi Cooper Collins.

Edith graduated high school from Middlesboro High School in Kentucky. She graduated college from Georgia Baptist Hospital School of Nursing in Atlanta, Georgia, voted "Most Professional" of her senior class. Once she moved to Shelby, Edith worshiped at First Baptist Church of Shelby for more than thirty years. She was a founding member of the Ladies' Parlor Co-Ed Sunday Class.

Her greatest gift of all were her children. She leaves behind a daughter, Debra Duncan of Raleigh, and two sons, Scott Duncan of Shelby, and Jeff Duncan of Shelby. She also adored her stepchildren, Kathy Rush and her husband, Jim of Illinois; Ron Carey of Indiana; Tricia Fisher and her husband, Ray of Hendersonville, North Carolina.

Her grandchildren were the joy of her world: Jeremy Duncan of Shelby, NC; Shaun Rush and his wife, Madison of Montgomery, IL; Jamie Rush of Magnolia, TX; Jason Rush of Bartlett, IL; Madison Carey of Joliet, IL; and McKenzie Carey of Oswego, IL. In addition, she loved her great grandson, Jaxon Duncan of Shelby, NC; sister, Carol Sue Russell of Harrogate, TN; brother, Jack Collins and his wife Suzanne of Coral Springs, FL; and Pat Collins, her sister-in-law from Middlesboro, KY. Rounding out her family are her nieces, Sandy Trimyer and her husband, Nick of Williamsburg, VA; Karen Collins of Garner, NC; Amy Russell and her husband Travis of Alpharetta, GA; and nephews, Keith Collins of Garner, NC; and Anthony Russell of Alpharetta, GA. Edith leaves behind a nephew-in-law, Jim Baker of Timonium, MD.

She loved her great nieces and Duncan relatives dearly.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Fred Carey of Shelby, NC; sister, Mildred Trimyer of Williamsburg, VA; niece, Kathy Baker of Timonium, MD; brother, Allen Collins of Middlesboro, KY; nephew, Mark Allen Collins of Middlesboro, KY; and brother-in-law, Robert Trimyer of Timonium, MD.

To celebrate the life of Edith Carey a memorial service will be held Saturday, September 23rd at 10:30 a.m., in the Webb Chapel of First Baptist Church in Shelby, NC, with Reverend Perry Holleman officiating the service. A lunch will be provided in the Ladies' Parlor after the service.
