Everett Alvin Hord, 83 passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, March 24, 2018 at his home in Cherryville, North Carolina. Everett was born on April 5, 1934 in Shelby, North Carolina to the late Posie and Josephine Porter Hord. Everett is the last of nine children to pass into Heaven. They included: Pearl Stroupe, Nida Fitch, Margie Rapp; Raymond, Luther, Gaston, Wilbur and Harold Hord.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 47 years, Mrs. Ann Hord; children, Cindy Clark and husband Kevin of Mooresboro, Thomas Hord and wife Glenna of Cherryville, Beth Thomas and husband Matt of Cherryville; grandchildren, Amy Emery and husband Matt, Brian Hord and wife Joy, Jonathan Darnell and wife Lindsey, Chris Hord and wife Shannon, Harrison Newton; great grandchildren; Parker and Gracie Emery, Gage, Ella and Cole Hord, Rhaya Hord, Jose-Kate and Jett Darnell.

He received a degree from The University of Texas, attended Cleveland and Gaston Community College and finished his electrical training at The Maritime Institute in Baltimore, MA.

Everett had a love for the sea. He served in the U.S. Navy for 6 years. He settled into his loved career for the U.S. Merchant Marines for 35 years. His position was a Radio Electronics Communication Officer. Traveling the world was a great adventure and passion for him. In fact, he circled the world from East to West four times. With his career, he touched every continent and 48 of the United States. Given the opportunity, he would tell you about all the places that he had been and numerous stories about living on a ship, including capturing over 8 stowaway's that were trying to escape from their country. He was a member of Cleveland County Amateur Radio Service Clubs.

Everett loved to drink coffee with his friends at Chicken Hill, have lunch at The Neal Senior Center and check his email at the local library each day. He could be seen driving around town in his big blue station wagon.

A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, March 26, 2018 at Buffalo Baptist Church in Shelby with the Rev. Macky Turner and Pastor Ernie Blanton officiating. The family will receive friends before the service from 12:00-2:00 p.m. in the church sanctuary. Burial will follow service at Buffalo Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors.
