Everette "Big E" Franklin Grigg
Everette "Big E" Franklin Grigg, was called home to be with the Lord on May 28, 2025, at the age of 75. Born on February 10, 1950, in Shelby, North Carolina, to the late Lawrence and Dorothy Grigg, Everette was a man whose life was a testament to the enduring strength of faith, family, and community.
Everette's journey on this earth concluded in Cherryville, North Carolina, surrounded by the love and prayers of his cherished family. He was preceded in passing by his brother, James Grigg, and sister, Louise Gardner. His legacy of love continues through his devoted wife of 55 years, Maria Grigg; his son, Daniel Grigg and wife Charity; his daughters, Amy Lovelace and Laura Sturgis; his sisters, Evelyn Kiser and her husband Keith, and Carolyn Efird and her husband Neal; his seven grandchildren, Amber Sturgis, Levi Sturgis, Dawson Sturgis, Michael Lovelace III and his wife, Victoria, Cody Lovelace and his wife, Hannah, Kensly Grigg, Ethan Grigg, and Haydn Abercrombie; and his great-grandchild, Demi Lovelace.
A proud graduate of Burns High School, Everette's work ethic shone brightly throughout his life. He dedicated 20 years to K-Mart, 13 years to Sears, and later channeled his entrepreneurial spirit into a successful five-year venture of Big E Builders in the construction business. His commitment to service was evident in his 14 years with the Waco Fire Department, where he not only served as captain for three years but also contributed his wisdom to the board of directors for another three years.
Everette's heart for his community was further displayed through his over 25 years of involvement with the Ruritan Civic Organization. His faith was the cornerstone of his existence, and he lived it out as a member of Waco Baptist Church, serving as a Deacon and lifting his voice in praise as part of the church choir. Everette firmly believed in the truth of the Bible, the divinity of Jesus Christ, and the promise of eternal life through Him.
Family reunions and vacations were the highlights of Everette's life, with special memories made at the Black Mountain Campground and along the scenic drives of the Blue Ridge Parkway. His hobbies included woodworking, playing golf, and bowling, each pursued with the same joy and enthusiasm he brought to every aspect of his life.
Everette's love for singing was matched only by his love for fellowship. His gentle spirit, generous heart, and loving nature were the hallmarks of a life well-lived. He was a beacon of light to all who knew him, guiding by example and always ready with a kind word or a helping hand.
The final earthly service for Everette will be held on Monday, June 2, 2025, at 3:00 pm at Waco Baptist Church, with the Rev. Neil Efird officiating. His body will be laid to rest in Capernaum Cemetery, where he will await the glorious resurrection. Friends and loved ones are invited to pay their respects on Sunday evening from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm at Stamey-Tysinger Funeral Home.
Everette leaves behind a message of enduring faith for his family and friends: "Trust in the Lord and attend a bible-believing church. I love you all and hope to see you in heaven".
