Mr. Frederick Bernard Ellis of Gaffney, SC, was affectionately known as Fred or Freddie. He was born January 19, 1950 in Cherokee County, Gaffney, SC and gained his wings on Sunday, February 1, 2026 at the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. He was the son of the late Fred Richard Ellis and the late Rosa Mae Corry Ellis.

In addition to his parents, Frederick is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Nathaniel and Bessie Hemphill Corry and his paternal grandparents, Zero and Callie Richards Ellis.

Left to cherish his loving memory are his devoted wife, Phyllis Thompson Ellis of the home; children, Kendra Ellis Singleton (Rodney) of Myrtle Beach, SC, Travis Mauney of Charlotte, NC, Rachelle Moir of New Jersey, and a "special daughter," Marianne Bell of Columbia, SC; siblings, Marva Davis (William), Gytanna Smith and Robin Stephenson; two grandsons whom he absolutely adored, Quentin Singleton of Champaign, IL and Nicholas Singleton of Myrtle Beach, SC; sisters-in-love, Peggy Davison (Freddy), Beatrice Washington (Joel), Nancy Thompson, Lola Thompson and Rose Marie Thompson; brothers-in-love, Henry Thompson (Bettye), Norris Thompson, Dennis Dawkins, Sr.; great aunt, Mrs. Gwendolyn Hemphill; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, February 7, 2026, Shoal Creek Baptist Church, Shelby, NC. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
