Gene T. Davis, age 90, passed away on Sunday, January 22, 2017 at Carolinas Healthcare System Cleveland. Born in Cleveland County on July 30, 1926 he was the son of the late Byron and Mae Bechtler Davis. Gene served in the U. S. Army from 1945-1947. He graduated from Number Three High School and N. C. State College with a degree in Civil Engineering. After college he worked at DuPont on the Savannah River Project for 2 years. From then until he retired he worked for the N.C. Department of Transportation as District Engineer. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, Gene is preceded in death by his sister Beth Currie and husband Edward; his brother, Lewis B. Davis and wife Marion; and brother-in-law, Dr. Wyan Washburn.

Gene is survived by his sister, Emily Washburn of Boiling Springs; a brother, T. Paul Davis and wife Mary of Shelby; 8 nieces and nephews. Gene was a great son, brother, uncle and great uncle and will be fondly remembered.

Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at 11:00 am at New Hope Baptist Church with Rev. Russ Bradley officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Military Honors. The family will receive friends, an hour before the service, from 10:00 am until 11:00 am in the sanctuary.
