George Steve Brackett, 72, of Brackett Hill Road, Casar passed away on Thursday, August 13, 2026 at Wendover Hospice House in Shelby.



Steve was born on November 11, 1953 in Cleveland County to the late Brantley Brackett and Nancy Pauline McNeilly Brackett.



Throughout his career, Steve was known for his strong work ethic and ability to do just about anything he put his mind to. He spent many years working at PPG, where he built a reputation as a dedicated and reliable employee. His talents extended well beyond his regular employment, however. He owned and operated his own roofing business, installed swimming pools, and provided a wide range of general construction services. Whether he was repairing a roof, building something from the ground up, installing a pool or helping a friend or neighbor with a project, he took pride in his work and was always willing to lend a hand. He was a member of Corinth Baptist Church in Casar.



In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Harold Brackett, Jerry Brackett and Donald Brackett and three sisters, Ruth Bumgardner, Marie Hoyle and Linda Shope.



Steve is survived by his wife of 57 years, Trudy Ledford Brackett; two daughters, Miranda Brackett Kilby and husband, Bobby of Casar and Deobrah Ann Roberts and husband, Daniel of Shelby; three grandchildren, Anzlee Mae Kilby, Brantley William Roberts and Noah Cayson Roberts; brother, Brantley Ray Brackett of Casar; five sisters, Louise Montgomery of Casar, Martha Dianne Newton of Shelby, Jeannette Allen McCurry of Casar, Carolyn Shuford of Hickory and Marilyn Gantt of Shelby.



The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 16, 2026 from 2:00pm to 3:00pm at Corinth Baptist Church.



A funeral service will be held on Sunday, August 16, 2026 at 3:00pm at Corinth Baptist Church with Rev. Norris Willis and Rev. Jim Kilby officiating.



Burial will follow in Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery.
