Gloria "Diane" Shumate, 79, of Kings Mountain, NC, passed away on April 22, 2026 in Gastonia, NC. Diane was born March 18th 1947 in Altavista, VA to the late Thomas Maddox and Johnsie Lee Maddox. Diane worked at Guilford Mills in Greensboro, NC as well as having a long and very fulfilling career of 36 years with the City of Gastonia NC. Diane was an avid gardener and loved to watch her boys, grandkids and great grandson play sports.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank of 61 years!

SURVIVORS: Sons: Frank Shumate and wife Kristie, Greensboro, NC; Kevin Shumate and wife, Tara, Columbus, OH; Jeff Shumate and wife, Elaine, South Boston, VA; Sisters: Sue Maddox, Stuart, FL; Thelma Barrett, Stuart, FL; 6 Grandchildren: Taylor Shumate-Steed, Greensboro, NC; Kylie Shumate, Columbus, OH; Tanner Shumate, Charleston, SC; Emily Wylie, Greensboro, NC; Ellie Shumate-Hazelton and husband, Ethan Hazelton, Princeton, NJ; Bryson Shumate, Columbus, OH and 1 Great Grandchild: Maddox Steed, Greensboro, NC

A Private Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date in Greensboro.
