Grace saw a serious need for pre-school training not only for her own children but for all children. During this time Grace and Yates's church membership was at Westview Baptist Church. Grace's vision for child development led her to establish the kindergarten program at this church. She was also active teaching Sunday school, helping with the GA's, and leading a troop of Girl Scouts. When the State instituted public kindergarten, Grace then led in changing the program to a daycare facility. Later Grace had the privilege of keeping her grandchildren in her home till they started school. She also kept a number of children that were not family. Parents knew their children, under Grace's care, would be fed well balanced meals, trained in good manners, and prepared for kindergarten.

Grace and Yates returned to Yates's home church Double Springs Baptist and remained there for twenty-five years. Grace was very instrumental in organizing and establishing a daycare facility there.

Grace had the reputation of being a master gardener. She raised most all of the vegetables used by her family in a backyard garden and always managed to have a surplus to share with friends. Grace's "greens" were always a staple at the Joy Club at Double Springs Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends beginning at 1 p.m. Friday, December 29, 2017 with the celebration of life service following at 2:30 p.m. at Cecil Burton Funeral Home and Crematory Chapel with Pastor Max Turner and Pastor Brian Johnson officiating.
