Harlin "Dale" Wacaster

Harlin "Dale" Wacaster, age 91, of Cherryville, passed away Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at Wendover Hospice House. He was born February 2, 1935, in Gaston County to the late Lee Melvin and Mary Helen Dellinger Wacaster. Dale was a Veteran of the United States Army. He served in Iceland during the Korean Conflict and was present when President Eisenhower reviewed the troops. He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church where he was a former Sunday School Treasurer and choir member. He was the Salutatorian for Waco High Class of 1953. Dale programmed and installed the first IBM computer in Cleveland County. He was an avid racing, football and baseball fan. He also enjoyed watching American Legion Baseball. Dale was an avid reader and enjoyed going to the library to pick out books. He was also a history buff and enjoyed reading about the history of the Civil War. Dale loved music, the beach, the outdoors, traveling, and his family. He was a wonderful Daddy, PawPaw, and PopPop. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Glavis, Charles, Gene, and Hugh Wacaster; and his sister, Sue Wacaster. Survivors include his daughters, Sandra Dale Lynch (Doug), and Dianna Sue Champion (Terry); grandchildren, Curtis Obadiah Lynch, Summer Marylee Kelly (Pat), and Teri Nicole Brown (Nathan); great-granddaughter, Natalie Elizabeth Brown; very special niece, Linda Wacaster; and numerous other nieces and nephews. Dale's family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM, on Saturday, February 14, 2026, at Carpenter-Porter Funeral and Cremation Services. A Graveside Service will follow at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Jerry Lail officiating. Military Honors will be provided by Cherryville American Legion Post 100. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the caregivers at Wendover Hospice House for all they did for Dale.
