Heath Denton Hovis, 80, of Deerfield Road, Shelby passed away on January 27, 2026 at Atrium Health - Cleveland.

Mr. Hovis was born on July 22, 1945 in Cleveland County, to the late Patrick Henry Hovis and Beatrice Bumgardner Hovis. He was retired from Shelby City Schools as an electrician, served in the US Army and never met a stranger. Mr. Hovis loved to build things, going to the mountains and spending time with his family, including all his family made out of love along the way.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Sahara Desiree McClain; two brothers, Scott Hovis and Bill Hovis and a sister, Sandy Hopkins.

Mr. Hovis is survived by his wife of 54 years, Barbara Allen Hovis; two daughters, Heather Hovis and Jennifer Hovis both of Shelby; brother, Duke Hovis of Lattimore; three sisters, Lynn Hovis of Shelby, Sally Brackett of Brown Summitt and Carol McArthur of Shelby; four grandchildren, Calen Brown (Jordan), Everette McClain (Kianna), Kiera Surratt and Ashanti McClain (Michael) and two great-grandchildren, Iris Mellon and No' Ella Davis.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 8, 2026 from 2:00pm to 3:00pm at Stamey-Tysinger Funeral Home.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Sunday, February 8, 2025 at 3:00pm at Stamey-Tysinger Funeral Home Chapel.
