Helen Christine Willis Spurling, age 86, went to her heavenly home February
12, 2017 following an extended illness.

She was born January 4, 1931 in Cleveland County, NC to Odus and Addie Cook
Willis. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband
of 36 years, Harold Spurling. She was also preceded in death by an infant
brother of one day, Ray Willis of Belwood, Russell Willis of Fallston, and
Burl Willis of Belwood.

Mrs. Spurling is survived by her son, Gene Spurling and wife, Kim of
Lawndale, and her daughter, Teresa McNeilly and husband, Danny of Casar.
She is also survived by three grandchildren who were her pride and joy,
Ethan and Laurie McNeilly and Trevor Spurling. Other survivors include her
sister, Sedahlia McMurry of Atlanta, Georgia; a sister-in-law, Ruth Willis
of Belwood; numerous nieces and nephews; and three dear friends, Lillian
Dellinger, Gayla Rikard, and JP Whisnant.

Mrs. Spurling was a devoted member of Fallston Baptist Church for 60 years.
She enjoyed helping and participating in senior events as well as other
activities.

Her passions were cooking for family and friends and cheering for her
grandchildren at sporting events where she was their greatest fan. She was
retired from Cleveland County Schools.

The family extends special thanks to the pastor and members of Fallston
Baptist Church for their faithful and loving support.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 7:30 to 9:00 PM at
Stamey-Tysinger Funeral Home, Fallston. Condolences may be made online at

The funeral service will be on Thursday at 3:30 PM at Fallston Baptist
Church with the Revs. David Blanton and Danny McNeilly officiating.

The burial will follow the service in the Rose Hill Memorial Park, Fallston.
