Herbert Ernest  Rice, 80, of 730 Ed Hamrick Rd. in Shelby died Saturday, January 19, 2013,  at Hospice at Wendover.
 
Born April 6, 1932, he was a son of the late Andrew Jackson Rice and Ella Mae Harden Rice.  Mr. Rice retired from PPG Industries and was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.
 
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Junior,  Frank , Richard  and Johnny Rice; grandson, Dean Mincey and brother-in-law, Dean Oliver.
 
Mr. Rice is survived by his wife of twenty-four years, Elizabeth "Vickie" Rice; son and daughter-in-law, Johnny and Cindy Rice of Spartanburg; daughters and sons-in-law, Rosemary Clark of Monroe, Lib and Jim Smith of Shelby, Nancy and Joe Staley of Lincolnton and Donna Mellon of Schroon Lake, NY; brother, Lowell Rice of Bakersville; sisters, Virgie Rice, Inez Sanders and Ethel Ledford all of Bakersville; grandchildren, Dawn Boeving, Tabbatha Pearson, Shannon and Jonathan Rice, Charlieann Goff, Catherine and Caleb Staley, John Bello and Jessica Smith; great grandchildren, Josh and Storm Mincey, Jacob and Hunter Boeving, Carmen Pearson, Lydia, Elizah, Grace and Silas Goff, Nevaeh, William, Christian and Jesse Bello; great great grandchild, Alecea Rose Mincey; brothers-in-law, Henry Oliver and wife, Shirley, Lawrence Oliver and wife Nell; Jerry Oliver and David Oliver and wife, Annie, and sisters-in-law, Ruby Ledford and husband, Ted,  Clara Crawford, Evelene Thompson and Janette Oliver.
 
Visitation: The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.  Monday at Stamey Funeral Home in Fallston.
 
Funeral Service:  2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Bethel Baptist Church.  The body will be placed in the church thirty minutes prior to the service.

Burial: Cleveland Memorial Park in Boiling Springs
