Mr. Jack Elliott Covington, 76, of Shelby, NC, passed away Friday, July 9, 2010. Services were held at Lafayette Street United Methodist Church. Burial followed in Oakland Cemetery, Gaffney, SC with full masonic rites. 

Mr. Covington served our county in the U.S. Army.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon Covington and Beulah Webb Covington; 1 brother, Gene Covington; and 1 sister, Janet Brooks.

He is survived by is wife, Frances Mott Covington of the home; 1 son, Rick Pettit of Thaxton, VA; 1 grandson; 1 brother, Dan Covington and wife Suzy of Ellenboro; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Lafayette Street United Methodist Church, 1420 S. Lafayette Street, Shelby, NC 28152; or to: Hospice Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby, NC 28150.
