James Anthony Vance

James Anthony Vance, 87, of Plainfield Drive, Shleby, passed away on Thursday, May 23, 2024 at Hospice at Wendover, Shelby.

Born in California, on May 2, 1937, he was a son of the late Rudolph Vance and Louise Elede LeBlanc Vance. He was a proud retired Marine Veteran having served in Vietnam, where he received a Purple Heart. He would go on and work for the US Postal Service until he retired again.

James was an active member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. His faith was very important to him having been saved at sixty-eight years old. A special thanks is given to his Sunday School Class who were like family and to the members of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife Hope Bridges Vance; and six brothers, Rudolph, Manuel, Ramon, Joe, Daniel, and his twin John Vance.

He is survived by his two sons, Steven Vance of Gotha, FL, Jefferey Vance and wife Sheila of Navarre, Fl and Rodney Johnson and wife Carolyn of Bluffton, IN; a daughter, Rachel Renner and husband Eric of Indianapolis, IN; a special friend and love Sylvia Daves of Shelby; a brother Michael Vance of California; grandchildren John Vance, Annelise Vance, Matthew Renner, Neal Renner, Megan Renner, Kyle Johnson, Kelsey Sherrill, Lauren Peritore, and Ian Johnson; and one great grandchild Liam Sherrill.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am , at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 29, 2024 at 11:00 am at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Toby Bird, Rev. Chris Devine, and Rev. Jimmy Black officiating.

The burial will follow the service in the Rutherford Memorial Cemetery at 2:00pm, Wednesday, with full military honors provided by the US Marine Corp.

Memorials may be made to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Via Health Partners (Hospice Cleveland County) or the Semper Fi Fund.

In James's words for those of you who loved me, thank you, for those who did not, you did not know what you missed. My heart, love and prayers I gave to you each and everyday, and so it will always be "Love" for each and everyone of you. I tried my best. My greatest gift to you was loving you.
