James B. "Jim" Gantt

James B. "Jim" Gantt, age 80, died Sunday, February 18, 2018 at Carolinas Healthcare System in Union. Born in Cleveland County on November 27, 1937 he was the son of the late Oscar McKinnley and Lura Alice Wright Gantt. He was a member of Northside Baptist Church. Jim served in the United States Navy and retired from PPG after 34 years of service. Jim enjoyed spending time with family on camping and fishing trips and family gatherings. In addition to his parents, Jim is preceded in death by his wife, Doris Ruppe Gantt; three brothers, Bob Gantt, Don Gantt Mick Gantt and two sisters, Rachel Wellmon and Pearl Wellmon.

Jim is survived by his son, Rick Gantt of Connelly Springs; two daughters, Robin Motley of Monroe and Rhonda Galloway of Shelby; a sister, Jessie Rodriguez and husband John of Nebo; two sisters-in-law, Elizabeth "Lib" Gantt of Shelby and Ioma Gantt of Double Shoals; five grandchildren, McKinnely Ridge Gantt, and Lura Madison Gantt of Connelly Springs, James Elliott Motley and wife Kimberly, and Jessica Motley Herring and husband Matthew of Monroe, and Maryse Nicole Galloway of Shelby. Great grandchildren; Kaylee Grace Motley and Daniel Ryan Herring; many loving nieces and nephews; and special friend Jim Carroll.

Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at 2:00pm in the chapel of Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory with Dr. Chuck Griffin officiating. Burial will follow with Military Honors at Cleveland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends an hour before the service from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm at the funeral home.
