James Clayton Little Jr. of Shelby, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2026, at Wendover Hospice House. Born on September 29, 1941, in Atlanta, Georgia, James lived a life characterized by commitment to Christ, and love for his family and community.
James's career spanned over four decades as a dedicated car salesman, where his expertise and passion left an indelible mark in the industry. A proud graduate of Myers Park High School in Charlotte, NC, he continued his education at Florida Christian College, earning an associate's degree that would serve him throughout his professional journey.
A veteran of the United States Navy, James served honorably as a medic during the Vietnam War, reflecting his deep sense of duty and compassion. His military service was a key part of his identity, shaping the values he carried with him throughout his life.
James was a devoted family man, having been married to his beloved wife, Wanda Loflin Little, for 32 years. Together, they nurtured a close-knit family that included five sons, Daymon Little and his wife Mary Ruth, David Little and his wife Mary Jo, Jason Little and his wife Lauren, Geoffrey Shaw, Gregory Shaw and his wife Andrea, two daughters, Nancy Taylor and her husband Brindin, and Rebecca Howell and her husband Blake. He was also a proud grandfather to twenty grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, cherishing every moment spent with them and instilling in them the importance of family and faith.
A lifelong member of Shelby Church of Christ where he lead singing for many years. James's faith was central to his life. In his younger years, he had a deep passion for music, managing and singing in the band Catalinas, which brought joy not only to him but to countless others who enjoyed his performances. His spirit shone bright in every facet of his life; whether he was enjoying a day on the golf course, watching sports, shagging, or passionately cheering for the Carolina Panthers, James exemplified a zest for life.
James is preceded in death by his father, James Clayton Little Sr., his mother, Sara Taylor Little, and two sisters, Sandy Shane and Sara Teal. He leaves behind an enduring legacy through his loving family and many friends who will miss him dearly.
A visitation will be held on March 14, 2026, from 10:30 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a memorial service from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Shelby Church of Christ, located at 845 W Warren St, Shelby, NC 28150. The community is invited to join together in honoring and celebrating the life of a remarkable man who brought love, laughter, and kindness to those around him.
The family requests you to honor Jim's passion for the Carolina Panthers by wearing Panthers attire to the service.
