Born October 6, 1917 in Cleveland County, he was a son of the late Daniel Webster Hartman and Beulah Rachel Costner Hartman. He was retired from Carlton Yarn as a card tender and was a member of Plainsview Baptist Church. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret Latham Hartman, second wife of 71 years, Mary Ocie Newton Hartman; son, Bill Hartman; daughter, Peggy Hartman Dixon; son-in-law, Bobby Whitesides; brother, Hulo Hartman; and two sisters Alder Ledbetter and Ivey Smith. Survivors include three sons, Bob Hartman and wife, Linda of Shelby, Steve Hartman and wife, Lucy of Cherryville and Glenn Hartman and wife, Annette of Shelby; son-in-law, Clyde Dixon of Kings Mountain; three daughters, Jean Whitesides of Waco, Mary Hartman of Cherryville, and Juanita Lemberger and husband, Richard of Grover; daughter-in-law, Kaye Hartman of Fallston; 16 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.
