James Smith, Jr., 58, passed away on Thursday, March 15, 2012 at his home on Red Road.  A native of Cleveland County he was the son of the late James Smith, Sr. and his mother Sarah Strickland Smith.  He was the owner of Jimmy’s Body Shop. He loved fishing and hunting and spending time with his loyal best friend Bear, his grandchildren and children.  He enjoyed selling at the flea market and riding his Harley.

In addition to his mother Mr. Smith is survived by his sons, Chad Smith of Shelby and Chris Smith and wife Ashlee of Shelby; daughters, Jennifer Wayne and husband Robby of Iron Station and Kelsey Smith and Jon Grant of Cherryville; sister Kathryn Clemmer and husband David of Charlotte; grandsons, Tyler Potter, Drew Wayne, Sara Wayne, and one due in May.

A celebration of life service will be held at 3:00pm on Sunday, March 18, 2012 at Sharon Methodist Church.  The Rev. April B. Abernethy will be officiating.  The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 3:00pm prior to the service at the church.

The family requests memorials are sent to the Cleveland County Humane Society, 1609 E. Marion Street, Shelby, NC 28150.
