Blacksburg - Janet Green, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, Army wife, caregiver, and friend, passed away on May 29, 2026, at the age of 80, after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease.
Born on August 3, 1945, in Nottingham, England, Janet was the daughter of Jim and Jessie Denham. She grew up proud of her English heritage, a pride she carried throughout her life while also embracing the country she would later call home.
On May 8, 1970, Janet married Samuel R. Green. Together they built a life filled with love, resilience, and devotion to family. When Samuel joined the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, Janet courageously left her homeland and, in July 1978, brought their five daughters to America to begin a new chapter together.
As a proud Army wife, Janet created a loving home wherever military life took her family. Their journey included assignments at Fort Bragg, North Carolina; Fort Eustis, Virginia; Schwäbisch Hall, Germany; and Fort Lewis, Washington. Through every move and every challenge, Janet's strength, determination, and unwavering commitment to her family never faltered.
Janet worked throughout her life as a seamstress, a home health aide, and an in-home daycare provider. Of all the roles she held, caring for children was the one she treasured most. She opened her home and heart to countless children over the years, nurturing them with patience, kindness, and love.
Family was the center of Janet's world. Nothing brought her greater happiness than watching her family grow through the generations. She is survived by her daughters: Samantha (Dale) and her children Brandon (Tonya), Justin (Ashley), Kyle (Bri) Ian, and Elise ( Kendall); Kelly and her children Martine and Sam; Theresa and her son Damon; Paula and her children Shane, Josh (Chelsea), Kayleigh, Calbert (Zayda) and Garrett (Rebeca); and Martine and her children Jessie, Jason, Jaden (Mariah), and Justis (Nathan). She is also survived by 27 beloved great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her immeasurable joy. She is also survived by her beloved sisters Jennifer (Phil) and Jill (Tony) along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Janet was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Samuel R. Green, who passed away in 2004; her parents, Jim and Jessie Denham; her brothers, Patrick Denham and Keith Denham; also, her stepdaughter, Debbie Johnson.
Though Alzheimer's disease gradually took many of her memories, it never diminished the love she gave or the impact she made on those around her. She will be remembered for her strength, her devotion to her family, her caring heart, her pride in both her English roots and her American life, and the warmth she shared with everyone fortunate enough to know her.
The greatest legacy Janet leaves behind is not measured in years, but in the generations of family she loved, guided, and nurtured. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all those whose lives were touched by her love.
She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered. Goodnight, God Bless duck!
