Mrs. Janice "Jan" Lee Whisnant Brooks, 93, of Shelby, entered her Heavenly Home on Sunday, November 6, 2016 at Carolina Care Center in Cherryville.
She is survived by her children, Brenda Carpenter and husband Winfred of Shelby, NC, Tim Brooks of Tomball, TX, Ted Brooks and wife Kristi of Albany, GA, Danny Brooks and wife Kimberly of Orlando, FL, Sherry Gantt of Ridgeland, SC, and Joey Gantt of Hickory, NC, thirteen grandchildren, twenty four great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was also survived by a special friend, Carole Humphries of Shelby, NC.
Born July 8, 1923 in Cleveland County, Jan Brooks was the daughter of the late E. D. Whisnant and Evie Reinhardt Whisnant and was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Henry Norris Brooks, a brother, Hal Whisnant and two sisters, Beatrice Eaker and Eloise Williams.
Jan was a faithful member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church where she loved singing in the choir and teaching her "girls" in her Sunday school class until her health declined. She was also a member of the Baptist Women and Joy Group. Jan was also a "prayer warrior". Prior to Beaver Dam Baptist Church, she was a member of Dover Baptist Church for many years. She enjoyed working on her Sunday school lessons, reading, cooking for her family, and spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren. Jan loved visiting nursing homes and shut-ins with her church family. She will always be remembered for her beautiful smile.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 pm Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at Beaver Dam Baptist Church conducted by Dr. Paul Sorrells and Rev. Phil Hughes. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
