Janice "Jan" Sue Hastings, age 58, of Nebo, NC, passed away Friday, October 7, 2016, following an extended illness. The daughter of the late J C and Selma Short Hastings, Janice was born in West Palm Beach, Fla. on December 14, 1958.

Jan was a strong person with a big heart who loved animals. She was a member of Big Springs United Methodist Church in Charlotte, NC.

She is preceded in death by, in addition to her parents, one sister, Shirley Brown.

Left to cherish her memories, one daughter, Shannon Porter of Kings Mountain; one brother, James Hastings of Boone; two sisters, Linda Black (Cliff) of Dysarstville; and Debra Lechner of Asheville; two grandchildren, Cody Sluder of Asheville; and Shane Cornwell of Myrtle Beach, SC. She is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
