Jerry Nelson Floyd
Jerry Nelson Floyd passed away peacefully at home on October 2, 2025.
Jerry was pre-deceased by his mother and father (Macie Warlick Floyd and Weldon Arvel Floyd) and his brother and sister-in-law (William Dacus Floyd and Joyce Thackerson Floyd). He is survived by his wife, Marietta Gettys Floyd who was the love of his life for more than 67 years. He is also survived by his two sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry Michael Floyd (Michal Edwards Floyd) and Mark David Floyd (Susan Hamrick Floyd). Together, they gifted him with five grandchildren, Thomas Mark Floyd (Leah), Katie Suzanne Floyd Williams (Jake), Amy Elizabeth Floyd Savage (Jake), Daniel Yates Floyd, and Anna Noel Floyd, and eight wonderful great grandchildren. He spent his entire life providing for this family that he loved so dearly and who brought him so much joy. He also dearly loved Jolie "Caroline" Huang, an exchange student who lived with he and Marietta for a year and who became like an adopted daughter to them, along with her husband, Tim, and their son Nathan. And he even tried to serve as an adopted grandfather to his daughter-in-law, Michal's extended family after the death of her father. He was very close to Michal's mom, and her sisters, and their children, and grandchildren and treated them as part of his family, and they treated him likewise. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews on both his and Marietta's sides of the family.
Jerry worked as an over the road driver for Carolina Freight Carriers of Cherryville, NC for 32 years, logging nearly 5 million miles hauling freight over America's highways. After his retirement, he and Marietta built a successful rental property company which is still in operation. But his true passion was working on his farm raising cattle. He'd rather be on the farm than just about anywhere else and all the hard work that came along with the farm brought him a special sense of satisfaction that only he understood.
He was an avid sportsman enjoying hunting and fishing with his friends and sons including annual dove hunts on his farm, annual duck hunting trips to Louisiana, and annual surf fishing trips to Cape Lookout. He and Marietta would spend month long trips to Florida with close friends where he would fish on Lake Okeechobee almost daily. They enjoyed countless trips with the local chapter of the Friendship Force which carried them all around the world to make new friends who hosted them in many foreign countries on nearly every continent, and he also enjoyed hosting those foreign friends in his own home when they visited North Carolina. He always had time to help a friend with a project, and he thoroughly enjoyed construction work. He was a true jack-of-all-trades and not afraid to take on new projects. He derived a real satisfaction in working with the Elizabeth Baptist Church Handyman Ministry building projects, and he could fix, repair, or build, almost anything.
Jerry was an active member of Elizabeth Baptist Church for more than 30 years and he was president of a men's Sunday School class there. He loved the Lord.
