Jerry Wayne Bumgarner, 70, of Hicks St. died March 3, 2016 at Carolina Healthcare Charlotte. He was born on July 28, 1945 in Lincoln County, a son of the late Glenn and Annie Faye Upton Bumgarner. He was retired plant engineer for Travis Knits. Jerry enjoyed fishing, listening to music and was an all around handyman.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a brother, Danny Bumgarner and sisters, Glenda Garrison and Judy Barber.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Martha Jane Goins Bumgarner; children, Lisa Rae Bumgarner of Cherryville and Chad Bumgarner of Cherryville; three grandchildren, Destiny Bumgarner of Cherryville, Josh Black of Nashville, TN and Faith Putnam of Cherryville; sisters, Sherrie Cuthbertson of FL, Rita Beckner of IN, and Miki Metivier of Indiana.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, March 6, 2016 at 3:00 PM at Carpenter's Funeral and Cremation Services with Rev. Bobby Holtzclaw officiating. Burial will be in City Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friend at the funeral home Sunday from 1:30 - 2:45.
