Jo Ann Mauney, age 81, passed away at home on June 21, 2022.

Born in Cleveland County on July 6, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Woodrow Tessner and Mildred Holland Tessner Peck. Jo Ann graduated from Gardner Webb University and taught high school English in Gaston and Cleveland Counties. She was a lifelong member of Second Baptist Church in Shelby, where she found joy as church organist for more than 50 years. She will be remembered as a caregiver to all who knew her best.

Jo Ann is survived by her husband of 57 years, Joel Bennett Mauney of Shelby, and her son Duane Joel Mauney of Washington, DC.

A funeral service will be held 2:00PM Monday June 27, 2022 at the chapel of Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home & Crematory with Rev. Dr. Vince Hefner officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow the service in Cleveland Memorial Park.
