 Mr. Joe Edward Whisnant, 79, of  609 North Post Rod, Shelby, NC, passed away, Saturday, May 22, 2010. Services were held at Elizabeth Baptist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery with full Military Honors.

Mr. Whisnant served our country in the U.S. Navy, retiring after 21-1/2 years of service as a Chief Petty Officer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd Thomas and Nannie Katherine Allen Whisnant; 3 brothers, Tom, Bobby and Paul Whisnant; 3 sisters, Gladys Putnam, Helen Blanton and Katherine Whisnant; and a great-grandson, Kyle Martin.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Joann Pritchard Whisnant; 1 son, Chris Whisnant; 2 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and a number of special cousins and nephews.
