Joe Verlin Mead, 88, was born March 20, 1936, to the late Plato Verlin Mead and late Monta Lula Richards Mead in Casar, NC, as the third child and first son of eleven children passed on November 26, 2024, after a long period of illness.

He attended Casar High School. He was drafted and joined the United States Army in April 1959. Joe worked primarily in the furniture industry around Burke and Catawba Counties in North Carolina, and retired from Century Furniture in Hickory, NC.
Joe is survived by his daughter, Angela Mead and her husband, Nathan Brown, and grandson Elijah, of Fleetwood, NC; son Chris Meade and his wife, Renee, of Taylorsville, NC; grandson Braxton Meade and wife Brittany, and a great-grandson, Julian; and granddaughter Chloe; and son, Sam Meade and his wife, Robin, and granddaughters Victoria and Megan, numerous brothers and sisters; Gene & Carol Meade, Billy and late wife Gail Meade, Dale Meade, Keith Meade, Edith and late husband Raymond Walker, and Linda & Louie Hull and numerous in-laws, nieces, and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his siblings; Lunette Cook, Lorene & GL Stringfellow, John Meade, and Joyce & Eddie Benton.

The family would like to thank the staff of Glenbridge Health and Rehabilitation for their excellent care of Joe during his final years, and Amorem Hospice for their support and care.

A service honoring his life will be held on Sunday, December 1, 2024 at 3:00pm at Stamey-Tysinger Funeral Home Chapel with receiving starting at 2:00pm.

A burial service will be held at Olive Grove Baptist Church Cemetery immediately following the service.
