Rev. Joel Stevenson Camp Sr., age 66 died Tuesday July 2, 2013 at Cleveland Regional Medical Center. Born in Cleveland County he was the son of the late James Yates and Margaret Jackson Camp. Rev. Camp was a man of God who loved people. He was a loving, devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was the pastor of New Beginnings Church of Jesus Christ on Crocker Road in Kings Mountain. He was the plant manager for 19 years at Til-Mar Textiles. He enjoyed working with wood and furniture building, and his favorite thing to do was spending time with his family and fishing with his grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a grandson, Jace Cole.

Rev. Camp is survived by his wife of 48 years, Ruth Helms Camp; three sons, Joel Camp Jr of Kings Mountain, Jamie Camp and wife Jenna of New Bern, and Jonathan Camp and wife Holly of Gastonia; a daughter, Sandra Bowen and husband James of Shelby; two sisters, Wanda Arnold and husband John, and Becky Capps and husband Bennie all of Grover; one brother, Bishop Harold Camp and wife Barbara of Shelby; and four grandchildren, Jacob Camp, Jeremy Bowen, Vivian Camp, and London Camp.

The family will receive friends on Friday July 5, 2013 from 6:00pm until 9:00pm at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory. A private service will be held at a later date.
