John Michael " Mike" Phifer, age 55 died Friday, September 9, 2016 at his home. Born in Cleveland County on April 4, 1961 he was the son of John Rudolph and Frances Oneida Hastings Phifer Jr.of Shelby. Mike was a member of the Baptist faith. He worked at Cleveland Regional Medical Center for over 20 years in the I. T. Department. Mike was a member of the Cleveland Masonic Lodge #202 AF& AM. He enjoyed playing and listening to music. Mike is preceded in death by his brother, Tony Hastings.

In addition to his parents, Mike is survived by two sisters, Vickie Knapp and husband Steve of Shelby and Debbie Morgan and husband Steve of Hayesville; and nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 13, 2016 at 11:00 am in the chapel of Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory with Rev. Michael Shumate officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. A private burial will be held at Sunset Cemetery, with Masonic Rites.
