John O. Whisnant
John O. Whisnant, 86, of Polkville, passed away Sunday May 15, 2016 at White Oak Manor in Shelby.
Born September 24, 1929 in Cleveland County, he was a son of the late John Newland Whisnant and Florence Whisnant. He was retired from Bell South and was a member of Polkville United Methodist Church and Camp McCall Masonic Lodge #534. Mr. Whisnant also served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Edward Whisnant and one sister, Kathleen Poston.
Survivors include his wife of sixty one years, Benita Green Whisnant; two daughters, Pamela Martin and husband Michael of Belmont and Teresa Hubbard and husband Jimmy of Hollis; two sisters, Mary Lee Woody and Ruth Powell of Shelby; and three grandchildren, Justin Hubbard of Hollis and Jeremy and Julie Martin of Belmont.
The visitation will be Wednesday from 1:00PM until 2:00PM at Polkville United Methodist Church.
The funeral service will be Wednesday at 2:00PM at Polkville United Methodist Church with Revs. Bill Lovelace and Ed Lee officiating.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
