Cherryville - Mr. John Sherman Brown, Sr., 94, passed away on Saturday, February 7, 2026 at his home. Sherman was born on June 28, 1931 in Simpsonville, SC a son of the late Jud Lee Brown and Nell Heavner Houser. He was a retired driver from Carolina Freight Carriers Corporation in Cherryville. Sherman was a member of First Baptist Church in Cherryville and the William B. "Dub" Beam Sunday School Class. He was also a member of Cherryville Masonic Lodge #505 A.F. & A.M. for 58 years, Oasis Shriners, Cherryville Shrine Club and Cherryville American Legion Post 100. Sherman proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and was awarded the Purple Heart. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Marlene Beam Brown; a sister, Louise Eaker and a brother James "Jim" Brown. Survivors include his son, a son and daughter-in-law, John Sherman Brown, Jr. and Kelly of Cherryville; a grandson, Nickolas Brown of Cherryville; sisters-in-law, Martha Cornwell (Richard) and Judy Bingham (Jack). Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. The family wishes to express a special thank you to Tammy Dellinger for all of the love and care she provided for Sherman. The family will receive friends from 12:45PM to 1:45PM on Wednesday, February 11, 2026 at First Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM on Wednesday, February 11, 2026 at First Baptist Church with Dr. Vince Hefner officiating. Burial will follow the service at City Memorial Cemetery in Cherryville with military honors by Cherryville American Legion Post 100 Honor Guard and Masonic Rites by Cherryville Masonic Lodge.
