Joyce Beal Mitchem, 84, of Vale , passed away on Saturday, January 30, 2021 at Carolina Caring, Newton.

Born in Lincoln County, on August 27, 1936, she was a daughter of the late Noah Edward Beal and Jane Shrum Beal. Joyce was a homemaker but also worked for Lincoln County Schools in the cafeteria. After retirement she would help her son at Mitchem's Kitchen cooking and baking deserts. Joyce was an active member of Hebron United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir and was a member of the United Methodist Women. She was also a former volunteer leader with the 4H Club and a member of the North Brook Extension Homemakers Club.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Bobby "Bob" Harold Mitchem; three brothers, Willie Beal, Milas Beal, and Darrell Beal; and three sisters, Mattie Richards, Marie Wilkinson, and Shirley Sigmon.

She is survived by two sons, Carrol Mitchem and wife Robin of Vale and Wayne Mitchem and wife Crystal of Vale, two granddaughters, Regan Mitchem and Jordan Mitchem both of Vale; and four sisters, Linda Chambers of Mooresville, Quita Harkey of Lincolnton, Betty Setzer of Lincolnton, and Evie Lynch of Greensboro.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 2, 2021, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm, at Hebron United Methodist Church.

The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, at 2:00 pm at Hebron United Methodist Church with the Rev. Johnny Norton and Rev. Ed Lynn officiating.

The burial will follow the service in the church cemetery
