Cherryville - Mrs. Joyce Clay York, 88, passed away on Thursday, May 28, 2026 at Atrium Health in Charlotte.

Joyce was born on February 18, 1938 in Gaston County, NC the daughter of Robert L. Clay and Blanche Black Clay. She was retired from Travis Knit in Cherryville and late work at the YMCA in Cherryville. Joyce was a member of Cherryville Christian Fellowship in Cherryville where she was involved in the Ladies Circle. She touched many lives by her visits and through her card ministry.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by husbands, Joseph R. Black, Sr. and Danny York and a grandson Christopher Hunt.

Survivors include two daughters, Lynne Scarlett and husband Don of Lexington; Diana Abernathy of Cherryville; four sons, Robert "Bob" Daves and wife Kay of Bedford, IN; Randy Daves of Cherryville; Joseph R. Black, Jr. and wife Renee of Vale; Nelson Black and wife Bonnie of Jamestown and Ricky Black and wife Lana of Mt. Airy. Also surviving are numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 1:45P to 2:45PM on Tuesday, June 2, 2026 at Cherryville Christian Fellowship.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00PM on Tuesday, June 2, 2026 at Cherryville Christian Fellowship with the Rev. Bobby Holtsclaw officiating.

Burial will follow the service in the City Memorial Cemetery in Cherryville.
