Julius Elmer Price



Julius Elmer Price, 92 passed away January 5, 2013.

He was born December 6, 1920 to James Roland Price and Ada Logan Price of the Moriah Community in Casar.  He was married to Virginia Gurley on September 5, 1942 and they recently celebrated their 70th anniversary.

Mr. Price was a lifelong farmer, actively raising beef cattle until his recent illness.  He was honored with the 1997 Farm Bureau's Farmer of the Year Award.  He enjoyed working with and maintaining farm equipment and machinery.  Mr. and Mrs. Price prided themselves on their abundant crops and gardens and enjoyed sharing produce with family and neighbors.  He was an avid reader and enjoyed going to flea markets regularly with family and friends.

Mr. Price was an active member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church from an early age where he served as a deacon.  He served during World War II in the Philippines where he was awarded numerous medals.  He was a member of Casar Masonic Lodge and received recognition in 2010 for 60 years of service.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Price is survived by three sons: Wayne and wife, Eugenia of Casar, Alan and wife, Jeanne of Shelby and Richard of Hickory; 5 grandchildren, Amy Price Luper and husband, Tim of Raleigh, Steven Price and wife Tonya of Casar, Denny Price of New York City, Amanda Price Crotts and husband, Matt of Bessemer City, Tara Price Gander and husband, Mike of China Grove; 7 great-grandchildren, Cameron Luper, Katie and Lilly Price, Owen and Elam Crotts, Landon and Jackson Gander; 3 step grandchildren, Garen McClure and wife, Spring of Hillsborough, Scott Moss and wife, Karen of Boiling Springs, Chad Holland of Mooresboro and 2 step-great grandchildren, Gus and Zora McClure;  and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews also survive.

Mr. Price was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Bonnie Parker of Marion.  He is survived by 2 sisters, Mildred and husband, Hugh Fletcher of Valdese, Ruth Ann and husband, Ron Patten of Casar; brother, Hugh Dean Price of Casar; sister-in-law, Peggy Price of Casar.

Visitation: The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, Monday, January 7 at Stamey Funeral Home.

Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, January 8 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Casar conducted by Pastor Jamie Bridges and Rev. Landon Rice. 

Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Masonic graveside rites.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Mt. Zion Baptist Church, PO Box 326, Casar, NC 28020 or to Hospice Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby, NC 28150.
