| Kathryn Sigmon Campbell
Kathryn Sigmon Campbell, 88, passed away peacefully in Fayetteville, North Carolina on October 11, 2025, after a brief illness.
Kathie, as she was known to family and friends, was born in Conover, North Carolina, the eldest child of the late Lester and Rolean Sigmon. As a young adult she left Conover for Charlotte Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, where she fulfilled her dream of becoming a registered nurse. It was a calling she followed for more than 50 years.

While in nursing school, a blind date introduced Kathie to her husband of more than 50 years, the late Thomas William Campbell. Known to many as Bill, to Kathie he was always T.W. They married in 1959 after a whirlwind of courtship. Bill's career as an AllState agent took them to Shelby, where Kathie lived for more than 50 years and raised five children, all while working full-time and providing world-class care to her patients.

At Shelby's Cleveland Memorial Hospital, she helped build then lead the first intensive care unit in the region. She took great pride in the quality of care provided by her unit and had high standards for the nurses she supervised. Many hospital visits later in life were brightened by seeing nurses she had trained and doctors she had worked alongside. In Bill's later years, her nursing skills enabled Kathie to care for him at home, something she often called "the best nursing job I ever had." Her passion also inspired grandchildren and great-grandchildren to pursue nursing.

Bill's business trips gave Kathie her first taste of what would become a lifelong passion for travel. She led the family on countless adventures to campgrounds, the Carolina coast and mountains, Disney World and many more. Her first trip to London in 1988 ignited a love for the English high tea tradition, and over the years she held many tea parties to mark special occasions. She always insisted on loose leaf tea and had many beautiful teapots ready for any occasion. Her "up and at 'em" attitude never left her; just months before her death, she was having new adventures in New York City.

Kathie often called her longtime home on Park Circle in Shelby her "dream house." It was the center of many family and holiday traditions, and she provided a loving and stable environment for generations of family and visitors. When she relocated to Fayetteville, she brought her favorite furniture to make it feel like home, while enjoying the independence of apartment living.

Kathie is predeceased by her husband T.W. "Bill" Campbell, son Craig Campbell, and siblings Brenda Garcia, Lester "Junie" Sigmon, and Deborah Sigmon.

She is survived by four children: Melanie (and Todd) Stebbins, Scott (and Eileen) Campbell, Mary (and Tony) Fowler, and Douglas (and Erika) Campbell; as well as her sister and dearest friend, Shirley (and Dwight) Brooks. Also surviving are grandchildren: Eric Campbell, Amanda Cavenaugh, Chelsea Campbell, Kate Stebbins, Madeline Stebbins, Harrison Stebbins, Elizabeth Campbell, Ethan Campbell, Sarah Campbell, Marie Claire Campbell, Julian Campbell, Mitchel Fowler, and Heather Fowler-Murillo; and nearly a dozen beloved great-grandchildren.

Family and friends will gather for visitation at the Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home on Sunday, October 19, 2025 from 3:00 PM until 4:00 PM.
