KM Historical Museum exhibit features trains, toys

Christmas is finally here, and the kids are very excited. But maybe the countdown to the big day is dragging by for the small people in your household. Or maybe the big day has passed, all of the presents have already been opened, and then you hear the words that every parent and grandparent dreads: "I'm bored."
If this scenario sounds familiar, the Kings Mountain Historical Museum (KMHM) has a terrific diversion for your young ones - and for adults as well. The museum's 16th Annual Toys, Games and Trains Exhibit is taking place now through Saturday, Dec. 29, 2018, and, best of all, admission is free.
"This year we are pleased that the local 'S' Gaugers - model train enthusiasts - have once again filled the museum with model train displays that they assembled," says Sarah Lynch, KMHM director and curator. "We also have all kinds of railroad memorabilia, antique toys and games."
Lynch says that parents and grandparents often enjoy reminiscing about the toys and games of their childhood on display in the exhibit.
"We find that visitors of all ages are enchanted by the miniature snow-covered scenes that line the tracks, and they just delight in discovering the interactive carousel, hot air balloons and mailbag pickup," says Lynch.
KMHM is located at 100 E. Mountain St., Kings Mountain. Exhibit hours are Tuesday-Saturday from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Saturday hours are extended on Dec. 22 until 8 p.m. in conjunction with the Kings Mountain Christmas Celebration, weather permitting. The exhibit will be closed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
More information is available by calling the museum at 704-739-1019, by visiting the KMHM website at
