Larry "Gary" Garland Ramsey, Jr., 64 of W. Double Shoals Road, Lawndale passed away on April 10, 2026 at Atrium Health - Cleveland.
Gary was born on August 28, 1961 in Cleveland County, North Carolina, to Larry Garland Ramsey, Sr. and the late Carolyn Denton Sigmon.
Gary dedicated his life to serving both his profession and his community. Over the course of his career, he held numerous roles, including serving as a Health, Safety and Environmental Manager for several companies. He was also a Range Safety Officer at Foothills Public Shooting Complex and gave countless hours to emergency services, including EMS, the Lawndale Fire Department, and as Hazmat Captain of Cleveland County. Gary was passionate about teaching and served as a fire, rescue, and hazmat instructor at Cleveland Community College as well as other surrounding community colleges and fire and rescue departments.
Outside of his work, Gary enjoyed the outdoors. He loved camping, hiking, and kayaking. He was an avid gun collector and shooter and took great pride in reloading ammunition for himself and friends.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his son, Ethan Ramsey; and his great grandparents, Fred and Catherine Denton.
In addition to his father and stepmother, Daisy, he is survived by his daughters, Sarah Newton and husband, Trey, of Cherryville, and Taylor Ramsey of Charlotte; stepdaughter, Sher Martin and husband, Jeff of Fallston; grandson, Luke Galloway; and a grandson on the way, Josiah Ramsey Newton. He is also survived by his sisters, Lisa Willis and Tracy Jones of Forest City; several nieces and nephews; and his aunts and uncles, Melvin and Gracie Denton, Fred and Brenda Denton, and Linda and Dickie Cornwell. The family will receive friends on Monday, April 13, 2026 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Stamey-Tysinger Funeral Home.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 14, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at Double Shoals Baptist Church.
Burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park in Fallston.
