Lawrence Douglas Houser
Lawrence Douglas Houser, 81, of Shelby, North Carolina, entered into his eternal rest on December 7, 2024 at Wendover Hospice House in Shelby. Born June 14, 1943 in Cleveland County, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Johnny Houser and Aileen Ramsey Wilson and was also preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Sandra Camp Houser, and his sister, Mildred Joyce Metcalf. Lawrence worked as a printer for many years, including time at the Kings Mountain Herald, Gaston Gazette, and The Printin' Press. He was an avid carp fisherman who loved being on the lake and enjoyed the time he was able to spend there. Lawrence was known as "The Legend of Carp Fishing" and received the Legend trophy. He was a master of the tacklebox, making his own bait equipment and tying hooks. Lawrence was also an award-winning duckpin bowler and enjoyed shooting pool. His favorite things to do were visiting the mountains and the beach, and walking the beach with the love of his life, Sandra. A longtime member of Anthony Grove Baptist Church in Crouse, Lawrence was heavily involved in many aspects of the church ministry; he was a member of the choir, part of both the Faith team and the Drama team, a Goodtimers member, and a part of Celebrate Recovery. Lawrence was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. His generosity, kindness, and companionship will be cherished for a lifetime by all who knew and loved him.
