Linda Sue Carico Hartwyk, affectionately known as "Sue" to her friends, passed away on Sunday, May 24, 2026, at Caromont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia.

She was a resident of Shelby and a native of Kingsport, Tennessee. Sue was born on November 29, 1946, to the late Willard and Ernestine Carico.

Sue was a graduate of Linville High School in 1964 and went on to receive her Bachelor's Degree in Music from Warren Wilson College in 1968. She worked for over 30 years as an accountant at Chemetall Foote Mineral Company in Kings Mountain.

Sue enjoyed spending time with her husband and sons, as well as going for lunch with her special friends. She also enjoyed listening to and playing music, relaxing on the beach, building lego sets, and watching and playing along to "Jeopardy.

In addition to her parents, Sue was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Carico Allen.

Survivors are her husband, William Edward Hartwyk; her sons, Michael E. Hartwyk (Jennifer), and Bryan J. Hartwyk; sister, Bobbie Carico; brother, David Carico (Judy); grandson, Hunter Ruppe (Sarah); and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

The services will be held at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home in Shelby at 2:00 pm on Thursday, June 4, 2026. Interment will follow the service in the Sunset Cemetery. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
