Local Independence Day activities

Casar's Independence Day celebration will be held on Monday, July 4, 2016 from 2-10 p.m. The opening ceremony will be at 2 p.m. and will include a cannon shooting, a veteran's ceremony with a 21-gun salute, taps, a wreath ceremony, an awards ceremony and the national anthem. The rest of the day will include a bounce house, an inflatable water slide, a greasy pole climb, a turtle race, a pancake-eating contest, a talent show, games and a scavenger hunt. This year, for the first time, the celebration will feature a chili cook off contest. Other activities include the Cruisin' Casar Car Show and live music featuring Kenny "The Outlaw" Henderson and Lily Tallent. All activities are free.

The Fallston Fun Fest will be held at Fallston Elementary School on Saturday, July 2, 2016. Activities will be kicked off by a parade at
5 p.m., followed by the opening ceremony at 5:30 p.m. Kids' games and rides will be held from 5:30-8:30 p.m. There will also be a cake walk and a "dance challenge" for adults, which will be judged by the kids. Food will include hamburgers, hot dogs, barbecue (prepared by the Fallston Woman's Club), pizza, ice cream, lemonade and funnel cakes. Music will be provided by DJ Calvin Hastings from 5:30-7 p.m., followed by live music from the group Dirty Grass Soul from
7-10 p.m. The evening will end with fireworks at 10 p.m.

Kings Mountain's "Revol-utionary 4th" celebration will be held at the Walking Track Park in Kings Mountain on Cleveland Avenue (Hwy 161), near the YMCA, on Monday, July 4, 2016. Music will be provided by the Chris Marks Band from 6-9 p.m., and there will be a variety of food vendors available at Walking Track Park. In honor of the turning point of the Revolutionary War's Battle of Kings Mountain (fought just south of town), a scene from "Liberty Mountain - The Revolutionary Drama" will be performed by the cast. The evening will end with the big event, the fireworks show!

Lattimore will hold its annual Fourth of July parade and celebration on Monday, July 4, 2016. The parade will begin at 9 a.m. and will go up Westlee, Main and Price streets. At the conclusion of the parade, a special program will begin at 10 a.m. at the recreational park of Lattimore Baptist Church. The program will include the national anthem, the recognition of veterans, and live music by Phil and Gaye Johnson and Jack Lawrence. Biscuits, hot dogs and drinks will be sold along the parade route and at the park by the Lattimore Baptist Church youth group, with proceeds going toward funding youth activities such as summer camp.

The Mooresboro Independence Day Celebration will be held on Monday, July 4, 2016, at the old school in Mooresboro. Activities begin at 6 p.m. and include children's games and inflatables. Food will be available for purchase, including hot dogs, barbecue sandwiches and homemade ice cream. Music will be provided by the Golden Valley Crusaders from 7-9:30 p.m. Fireworks will begin at dark, and those attending are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs and/or blankets. Parking is free but is not permitted in the streets or travel lanes or on private property without the owner's permission.
