Mrs. Margaret Loretta Bess, 60, of 418 Hobbs Ave. Shelby, NC passed away on Sunday, March 15, 2020 at Atrium Health-Main in Charlotte, NC. She was born in Cleveland County, NC on May 24,1959 to Martha Whitworth Dawkins and the late Joe Louis Dawkins, Sr.

"Loretta" was a graduate of Shelby High School. She was employed with Hughes Behavior until her passing and enjoyed helping those in need. She was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church. Loretta was a truth telling straight-forward person who enjoyed life.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by four brothers, John Whitworth, Billy Dawkins, Tim Sanders and Donald Dawkins and a sister, Sheryl Little.

She leaves to cherish her memory, one daughter, Donetta Bess of the home; her husband, Donald Bess of Shelby; her mother, Martha Dawkins of Shelby; brothers, Joe Dawkins, Jr. (Carolyn) of Lincolnton, NC and Paul Dawkins of Shelby; sisters, Esther Dawkins (Kelly Bell) and Reca Brooks (Winford) both of Shelby; her good friend, Delores Pearson of Shelby and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Due to recent coronavirus state guidelines limiting the size of gatherings, the service for Mrs. Bess will be private. She may be viewed on Friday, March 20, 2020 at S.T. Enloe Memorial Chapel from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM. Also on Saturday, March 21, 2020 from 12:00 Noon until 2:00 PM at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church.
