Mrs. Marie Covington  Mauney, 95, of Shelby, NC, formerly of Kings Mountain, NC, passed away, Tuesday, July 6, 2010. Services were held at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in Cleveland Memorial Park. 

Mrs. Mauney was preceded in death by her husband, William White Mauney; her parents, Joseph Elliott Covington and Novella Wilson Covington; 3 brothers, Vernon Covington, Gaylon Covington, and Theron Covington; and 1 great-granddaughter.

She is survived by 2 daughters, Shannon Mauney Blanton and husband Bill, and Sheila Mauney Barkley, all of Shelby; 1 sister, Catherine Covington Spurling of Columbia, SC; 3 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; 9 step-great-grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews; and a very special friend, Terry Wampler.
