Mrs. Mary Kate Harrod Young, 86, of Summit Place, Kings Mountain passed away on Wednesday, September 1, 2010. A memorial service was held at Webb Chapel of First Baptist Church. Interment was private.

Mrs. Young was preceded in death by  her parents, Thomas Rutledge Harrod and Mary Elizabeth Harrod.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 68 years, Ed Young, of the home; two sons, Thomas E. Young and wife Dorothy of Shelby and James L. Young and wife Ann of Charlotte, NC; one daughter, Marsha Y. Brown and husband Rodney of Shelby; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to First Baptist Church, 120 N. Lafayette St., Shelby, NC 28150 or to Hospice of Kings Mountain; 951 Wendover Heights Dr., Shelby, NC 28150.
