Mary Maxine Lail Nanney, 87, of Shelby passed away on Thursday, June 4, 2026 at her home.

Maxine was born on December 30, 1938 in Cleveland County and was the daughter of the late John Lero Lail and Nellie Mae Queen Lail. She retired from Doran Textiles as a weaver and attended Mulls Memorial Baptist Church. Maxine enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and loved flowers no matter the kind.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband; Harry Eugene Nanney, son; John Dee Nanney, brothers; Boyd Lail, Cecil Lail, Ralph Lail, Roy Lail, two sisters; Lalage Blankenship and Dorothy Sue Green, two grandchildren; William Lane Nanney and Travis Lenn Pearson.

Maxine is survived by her son; Kenneth Nanney and wife Kim of Fallston, daughter; Susan Barnett and husband Paul of Shelby, brother; Earl Lail of Shelby, grandchildren; Chase Barnett and wife Rosita, Kody Nanney and wife Kaitlynn, Kortney Brooks and husband Daniel, 16 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Monday, June 8, 2026 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Mulls Memorial Baptist Church, Shelby.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 8, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Mulls Memorial Baptist Church with Dr. Ervin Price and Rev. Jimmy Black officiating .

Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
