Mary Sue Hayes, 91, passed away on Monday, June 24, 2013 at White Oak Manor.  Born in Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Zollie Landrum and Hattie Lee Turner Ledford.  She was also preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, J. Hoyt Hayes; infant son, Joe Landrum Hayes; two brothers, Harlan C. Ledford and Guy C. Ledford.  Mary Sue was a member of Troutman Baptist Church.  She began her career as a floral designer and retired from Sears & Roebuck Co. in Charlotte after 30 years of service.  She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend.  She loved to sew, cook and read her bible. 

Mrs. Hayes is survived by her children; Wanda H. Haughton and husband Paul of Troutman, Robert H. Hayes and wife Yvonne of Shelby, Dianne H. Thackerson and husband Jesse of Shelby, and Erika Q. Hayes of Troutman; Twelve grandchildren; Twenty-four great grandchildren; Eight Great-Great Grandchildren.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Perkins and the staff of White Oak Manor, especially Lily Wray and Madge Blanton.

A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, June 27, 2013 at the Chapel of

Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and Crematory.  Dr. Rit Varriale will be officiating.  Burial will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 6:30pm on Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at Cecil M Burton Funeral Home and Crematory.  At other times the family will be at the home of Dianne and Jesse Thackerson on Marion Street in Shelby.
